  • Marysville High School Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy
    08/20/2009 by Jan Schmorrow
Due to the tremendous increase in the number of students that have cell phones/electronic devices in school, the following policies will be in effect immediately.  These policies should give students, staff  and parents a more consistent idea on appropriate cell phone use and consequences for inappropriate use.
    1. Cell phones/electronic devices are to be off and out of sight upon entering the building.  If the cell phone/electronic device is in sight, it will be confiscated (whether being used or not).  If the cell phone rings during class while out of sight, is will also be confiscated.
    2. Cell phones/electronic devices may not be used in the building at any time prior to 2:55 p.m.  You may make calls before school begins and at lunch as long as you are not in the building.  You may use your phone in the building after the 2:55 dismissal bell.  If your phone/electronic device is in sight in the building any time prior to this, it will be promptly confiscated and turned in to Student Services.  If your phone/electronic device is confiscated, the following consequences will be incurred:
First offense:  Student can pick up phone/electronic device at the end of the day(2:55 - student will be issued one after school detention.
Second offense:  Student will be issued three after school detentions and parent must come in to pick up phone/electronic device.
Third offense:  Student will receive a one-day in-school suspension and lose all cell phone/electronic device privileges for the remainder of the year.  If the student is in possession of a phone/electroinic device after his/her third offense, they will receive a three-day out of school suspension.

If a student refuses to give any staff member a cell phone/electronic device upon request, the student will move to third offense immediately and be suspended and lose all cell phone/electronic device privilleges for the remainder of the year.

It is our hope that these policies will eliminate many of the issues we are having with cell phones/electronic devices at M.H.S.
