Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year!

Letter to Parents from Superintendent of Schools
(Calendar, Open House Information, Bus Routes)

Dr. W

Greetings Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2016-17 academic year.  We are delighted that you have selected our District!

As we prepare for the onset of school in the next few weeks, we want to verify that you have the exact “back-to-school” information you need to successfully begin the year.  To be more specific, there is a new state law that requires for increased days of instructional time (180 days); consequently, we have made some adjusts to our school calendar (i.e., half days, late starts, etc.), so as to comply with the new mandate.

For more information on the above, our daily school schedules, immunization requirements, registration, transportation, school calendar, and other key information, please click on the “Back-to-School” icon located on our website (http://www.marysville.k12.mi.us/).  Furthermore, if you have any immediate questions that need to be responded to, please contact Ms. Melissa Mayo at 810.455.6096 between 8:00 AM-4:30 PM or email her at MMayo@marysvilleschools.us.

Over the summer, we have been very busy preparing our schools, hiring talented staff, and initiating new programs/services that will meet the needs of all our students.  For example, we are thrilled about offering AP Chemistry at the high school, implementing STAR 360 student growth assessments (K-8), SRA/Open Court Reading (K-1), Language for Learning (K-2), Lexia Strategies (6-8), Eureka Math (6-8), and Reflex Math (K-5).  We are also expanding our early childhood learning program by offering two half-day Begindergarten classes.  Finally, every 5th, 8th, and 9th grader in the District will be receiving a new Chromebook, which will enhance/extend students’ learning time.

Without a doubt, it is an exciting time in Marysville Public Schools.  We are a District continuing on a positive trend of growth, innovation, and achievement.  We are extending and enhancing our programs/services to maintain the highest level of educational standards, which is what Marysville Public Schools has long been known for, across the Blue Water Area and around the state.

If at any time we can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to give us a call, send us an email or drop by our Board of Education/District Administration offices.  We know that picking a school district is a very important choice and we thank you for choosing Marysville Public Schools.

Great futures begin here!

Sincerely,

Shawn K. Wightman, Ed.D.

Immunizations

St. Clair County Health Department (SCCHD) has two convenient locations to help vaccinate children, Preventive Health, Immunization and Communicable Disease Nursing Supervisor, Margaret Sturgis announced today. “I highly encourage parents and caregivers to get their kids vaccinated before the back-to-school rush,” Sturgis said.

The Health Department’s main office is located at 3415 28th Street, Port Huron. By appointment only: Mondays 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The Teen Health Center is located at 2215 Court Street, Port Huron (On the campus of Port Huron High School). By appointment or walk-ins accommodated as schedule allows: Mondays from 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Vaccines protect against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases, including measles and whooping cough. Unvaccinated children are at an increased risk and can spread diseases to others in classrooms and the community – including babies too young to be fully vaccinated and those with weakened immune systems.
