Marysville Public Schools takes pride in a curriculum that not only meets Michigan’s K–12 academic standards, but also encourages every student to reach their full potential. Our curriculum is shaped by national and state standards as well as the expertise of our educators, and we continually refine our practices to ensure relevance and rigor. We believe students learn best through authentic, engaging experiences and benefit from timely, meaningful feedback that supports their growth. Through ongoing professional learning, our teachers are equipped with current, research-based strategies to provide the highest quality instruction. Supported by a districtwide commitment to continuous improvement, our work ensures that all students are prepared for success in the next stage of their learning and beyond.

A Multilingual Learner (MLL) is a student who is developing proficiency in English while also bringing knowledge of one or more additional languages. These students enrich the school community with diverse cultural and linguistic perspectives, and with the right support, they are able to thrive academically while building strong English language skills.

Marysville Public Schools seeks to ensure that all multilanguage leaners acheive the English Language proficiency needed to acquire the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to build meaningful and productive lives.

MLL Enrollment and Programming
Newly enrolled students who may be eligible for English as a Second Language (ESL) services are identified through the Home Language Survey question on Marysville Public Schools enrollment forms.

English Language Proficiency Assessment
Staff will administer the State of Michigan English Language Proficiency Assessment (WIDA Screener) in the student's home school.  This test assesses the child's ability to listen, speak reach and write in English.

Permission to Provide Service
A letter communicating the student's WIDA Screener score is sent to the Parent/Guardian.  This letter informs the family of their student's assessment results and indicates if they are eligible for ESL Services.

Annual Proficiency Testing:
Every spring, MLL students will be reassessed with the WIDA Access for ELL test (through the State of Michigan) to measure English Language Proficiency. Results of this assessment are sent home to families the following fall.  The results are also used to determine which students will continue to be eligible to receive ESL services, which may be exited and monitored.
