Food Services

Thanks to the Michigan Meals Initiative, all Marysville Public Schools students receive free breakfast and lunch for the current school year, regardless of income. A complete meal includes a main entrée, fruit, vegetables, and milk; however, à la carte items purchased outside of a full meal will still have a cost.

Even though meals are free for all students, families are still strongly encouraged to complete a Free and Reduced Meal Application each year. These applications help the district meet state reporting requirements and may also qualify families for additional benefits, such as reduced or waived fees for AP exams, college applications, and other school-related costs.

Families can apply online through the MPS Meal Magic portal beginning August 1st, or submit a paper application to Marysville Public Schools Food Services. Applications should also be updated during the school year if your household income changes to ensure you receive all available benefits.

Even though all public K–12 students in Michigan receive free school meals for the current school year, it is still very important for families to complete a school lunch application each year. Marysville Food Services uses MealMagic to process applications and provide families with secure access to their student’s lunch account through the online Family Portal.

By creating a portal account, families can easily complete their lunch application and manage their child’s meal account.  Collecting these applications is required for accurate program reporting, but it also helps families qualify for additional benefits such as reduced or waived AP exam fees, college application fees, and other school-related costs.

Families may begin submitting applications on August 1st, prior to the start of the school year, either online through the MealMagic Family Portal or by completing a paper application.  Paper forms and links to the electronic applications will be mailed with back-to-school paperwork at the start of the year, and are also available throughout the school year in the School Offices.    To request a form be mailed to you, please call Pam Heintz at 810-455-6026.

Paper forms can be returned to Marysville Public Schools Food Services in the following ways:

mail: Marysville Food Services
            495 E. Huron Blvd.
            Marysville, MI 48040

faxed: 810-364-3150

or emailed to: pheintz@marysvilleschools.us

If a family’s financial situation changes during the school year, they are encouraged to submit an updated application to ensure they receive any benefits for which they may qualify.

A meal consists of a main entree, fruit, vegtables and milk.  Items obtained outside of a 'complete meal' are considered à la carte and will have an additional cost.  A la carte purchases can be monitored and controlled through your Meal Magic Family Portal.

All Michigan school districts that participate in School Nutrition Programs are required to have a bad-debt policy.   This policy addresses unpaid meal charges on student accounts.   You can view your child's account balance in the Meal Magic Family Portal and keep the account current with eFunds.  Should you have questions about your child's account or a notification you received, you can log into your child's Meal Magic Portal to get clarification on charges, or contact Pam Heintz, Food Services Director at pheintz@marysvilleschools.us or 810-455-6026

Marysville Public Schools Negative Balance Policy

The federal wellness policy requirement was established by the WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 and strengthened by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA). It mandates that every Local Education Agency (LEA) participating in the National School Lunch and/or School Breakfast Programs develop a wellness policy.

Marysville Public School holds an annual public wellness meeting.  Meeting notices will be posted as the event draws near.  If you wish to attend, please do not hesitate to contact pheintz@marysvilleschools.us or jmckay@marysvilleschools.us
